15 great websites for free stock photos

Visuals are an essential part of your branding should you use them for your website, blog, presentation or any other communication. Stock photos can get a little expensive, and sometimes overused. Increasingly, there are some great alternatives offering amazing free stock photos – here is the latest list of our favourites:

1. Pexels

Pexels provides high quality and completely free stock photos licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. All photos are tagged, searchable and  hand-picked from photos uploaded by users or sourced from free image websites. All published pictures are high-quality and licensed under CC0.

2. Life of Pix

Life of Pix is your go to place for free high resolution photos with no copyright restrictions for personal and commercial use. All images are donated to the public domain. The site is run by Leeroy Advertising Agency in Montreal and its network of photographers.

3. Death to the Stock Photo

The site offers free, high res photos delivered to your email every month.  A % of the profit from Premium Memberships pours right back into our community, to fund photography trips, creative projects, and adventures for our members around the world.

4. StockSnap

StockSnap is a great place to find free stock photos.Pictures are of high quality, high resolution and added  on a daily basis. All photos uploaded to the site are released under Creative Commons – CC0 and do not require attribution. The site curates the best stock photos from around the web and we also upload photos from select photographers within our network.

5. Unsplash

Another great place for high resolution stock photography without copyright restrictions. The site is run by the team at Crew.

6. Picjumbo

Picjumbo is a free stock photo site created in 2013 by designer and photographer Viktor Hanacek. It all started when several stock photo sites rejected his photos due to ‘lack of quality’. Two years later, Picjumbo has had almost three million image downloads.

7. Gratisography

Free high-resolution pictures for your personal and commercial projects. All pictures are free of copyright restrictions.

8. Pixabay 

Pixabay is a vibrant community of creatives, sharing royalty free images and videos. All contents are released under the Pixabay License, which makes them safe to use without asking for permission or giving credit to the artist.

9. Splitshire

Founder Daniel Nanescu created SplitShire with the simple aim of giving life to photographs that would have gone into oblivion without any utility. In the course of almost ten years of photography he accumulated many files, thousands, who were in the hard disk gathering dust.

10. Libreshot

LibreShot.com is a project that contains free stock photos for private and commercial use. All photos and the whole website are made by Martin Vorel.

Photos from Kaboompics appear on sites like BBC, CNN, Forbes, Cosmopolitan, Yahoo, iSpot, BuzzFeed, Hubspot, The Huffington Post or Lifehacker  Kaboompics is one of the most popular source of free images for lifestyle, interior design and specialized bloggers in world.

12. Startup Stock Photos

Free photos for startups, bloggers, publishers, websites, designers, developers, creators and everyone else.

13. Stokpic

Ed Gregory decided to give his photos away for free. As a photographer he takes photos and most of them will never be seen by anyone. They just sit on hard drives, hidden, so he thought why not let people put them to use.

14. Negative Space

15. MMT

Moment (MMT) provides free CC0 photography for personal and commercial use on websites, projects, themes, apps, and more. These photos can be freely downloaded, used, and redistributed for both personal and commercial purposes.
