As a business manager, you want to have the best people working alongside you. However, while there are many people looking for jobs, you may want to go beyond the traditional job boards when trying to secure your next employee. Why? Well, with a wider pool of people to choose from, you stand greater success in hiring the perfect fit for your team.
Here are some of the ways you can do it.
Go beyond your location
It’s common practice to look for an employee within reach, but you may want to consider hiring somebody remotely. If they don’t need to be in the office with you, your employee can work from home wherever they are in the world. A copywriter may live hundreds of miles from you, but you can search online for the best talent, and make use of their services for as long as you need them.
Focus on referrals
This is an old school idea, but one that still works. Your current employees already know the ins and outs of your business, and they may know somebody who would be the perfect addition to the team. Alternatively, other company managers may be able to point you in the right direction or refer one of their own employees to you if they are having to make cutbacks.
Hire somebody internally
It may be that the best person for the job is right under your nose, and you didn’t even know it. Advertise new positions to your current employees. They may have a hidden talent that you weren’t previously aware of, such as coding or web design. Not only are you doing yourself a favour, but you are also increasing the job satisfaction of the employee who may have been frustrated with his current position.
Use social media
From Facebook to LinkedIn, advertise your position on a wider scale, and encourage your employees to do the same. Considering the thousands of people available through individual networks, word will get out quickly and without cost. You can also check LinkedIn for mutual connections with business people you already know, and take the proactive tactic of approaching people you think will be a great asset to your team.
Hire a recruitment agency
Save time and stress in the recruitment process by using procurement job recruiters. Post your vacancy with them, and they will use their skills and resources to help you find the right person for the role within your team. Whether you need somebody on a fixed-term or temporary basis, they will be able to provide you with what you need as and when you need them.
Create an intern programme
Bring in the freshest and brightest talent on the block with an internship programme. Not only are you giving grad students the opportunity to get some valuable work experience, but you will also benefit from their enthusiasm and education. This is your opportunity to source the best young minds, and you can approach them with a full-time position when they have graduated.
The right person is out there, it’s just knowing where to find them. Use our advice to widen your search parameters, and you should find a valuable asset to your team. Snap them up before somebody else gets to them first!
