How to be more productive in your business

Time is your most valuable resource yet we’re all guilty of wasting it, or at least, not squeezing the most out of the time we put into tasks.  Indeed, as an entrepreneur it can sometimes feel like we are chasing our own tail with so much busy-ness to content with that we end up neglecting the most valuable tasks of running a business.

Here are a number of ways you can make the most of the spent working on your business.

There are a number of tasks that make a huge difference in your personal life and your business life; define them and devote the majority of your time to these tasks… rather than being consumed and bogged down with low-value tasks.  The vast majority of tasks that take up your time can either be automated (e.g. social media posts being automatically scheduled) or outsourced.

If you have a job, see if you can work remotely, from home, in a way that enables you to work flexible hours.  This way, your time is your own and you can have the necessary flexibility to tend to your business as well as your job.  Not everyone can afford to give up work in order to pursue their business dream, so if you’re in this boat, the next best thing is to change to a more remote working pattern in order to have the flexibility you require.

Working remotely not only saves time, but money too – think of how much you’ll save on the daily commute for instance.  That said, there can be a productivity cost as it’s all too tempting to sit and watch Netflix when working from home, which is why many small business owners opt to hang out in a co-working space which gives them the structure and focused environment of an office environment but is completely flexible and on your terms.

We all seem to spend far too much time living in reaction to work demands – trying to fit our lives in around it, but it doesn’t have to be that way! The amount of time you can save by having a good planning system in place is phenomenal… a lot of “time management” comes down to first planning your tasks so that you can keep on top of things with ease.

Most entrepreneur’s feel like they need to do everything on their own and the concept of outsourcing certain tasks to specialist companies such as AM 18 Excel services can feel quite daunting at first, but once you get in the swing of things you’ll never look back.

It’s important you work but it’s also important you rest.  Marathon runners can’t keep on running forever; they have to have some down time.  The sun can’t always shine, the moon must rise to take its place.

Many time management experts advocates the idea that you work when you work and rest when your rest; meaning, if you are sitting down to work – ensure you have a laser like focus on the task at hand in a distraction free environment.  Similarly, when you are resting, put your laptop away – turn your phone off, and don’t constantly be checking social media or email. Rest when you rest and work when you work.
