Today we share the inspirational story behind Little Bundle Box, a family business combining practical baby gifts and beautiful keepsake suitcases.
What is it that you do?
We are a mother & daughter team (Fiona & Debbie) specialising in beautiful and practical baby gifts presented in our elegant keepsake suitcases. Each case is completed with a white leather luggage tag to record a baby’s birth details and provides a stylish way to store precious baby mementos. We offer an exciting range of ‘gift bundles’ to please all pockets and a ‘build your own’ section where you can create a gorgeous gift to suit.
We launched Little Bundle Box in April 2018, at the ‘Baby & Toddler Show’, SEC in Glasgow, but we are primarily an online baby gift business. Debbie, now lives in Manchester and I live in Scotland so we have to travel to see each other. Attending baby shows throughout the year adds another dimension where we can work together and it’s lovely to meet customers face to face.
What’s the story behind your business and what inspired your business?
When Debbie gave birth to Ariana in 2016 it was a momentous occasion as it followed several years of IVF cycles. Debbie and husband Rowan were living in Australia at that time, so I flew out to help with their new bundle of joy. As I’d taken early retirement and Debbie worked from home, we had plenty of time to chat between baby feeds and nappy changes. The inspiration for littlebundlebox.com began on one of our pram walks when we first discussed buying a keepsake box or case for Ariana. After searching online for a while, we couldn’t find anything that seemed to suit and that’s when we decided to start our own business! Little Bundle Box was born out of an idea to combine baby gifts that would be used immediately, with a keepsake case that would become part of a family’s history. All wrapped up in one stunning ‘bundle’.
What is the most difficult aspect of running your own business?
One of the most difficult aspects of any new business is getting the word out. It involves lots of different strands of advertising and marketing to let people know just what a great product we have. Keeping stock in two different locations can also be a logistical juggling act and as there are only two of us, we have to keep the ball rolling all the time. We are fortunate in that our husbands can help us out with website development and printing.
What is the best thing about running your own business?
It’s immensely satisfying working together as a mother and daughter team, and of course we also have Ariana – our Quality Assurance Manager! It’s a roller coaster and when you are up at the top it is really euphoric! Great monthly sales and return corporate customers are what gets us up in the morning with a spring in our step. Leaner times just mean knuckling down, brain storming and working through. It’s been exciting to build a business from scratch and no two days are the same. Hearing positive feedback about our baby gifts is fantastic because we put a lot of care and love in to each gift bundle we wrap and send out. We really appreciate when people enjoy our gifts as much as we do.
