In our ‘Inspiring small businesses’ series, we share and celebrate great stories from fellow small business owners who started and run their own business. By bringing you closer to these inspiring businesses we hope that you find motivation, tips and ideas for building yours.
This week we have the pleasure of sharing the story of Joseph James, founder of Joseph James Mentoring, owner of the Money, Mindset & Strategy podcast and author of some best selling coaching books & programs, available for download on Amazon.
What is it that you do?
I’m a business coach specializing in money mindset and income streams.
I work with clients one on one and teach courses and workshops around growing your business, creating different income streams for yourself and a lot of mindset work around helping people to release limiting beliefs around themselves, promoting their work and charging well for their time.
I also speak regularly at events, host workshops and have a series of books on Amazon called “Money Mentoring with Joseph James”
What’s the story behind your business?
I was working in PR and doing some strategy for a well known business coach at the time. Over the course of our work together, she actually passed me some clients and it naturally evolved from there. I was doing coaching without really realising that’s what it was called.
Then in 2012 I was interviewed on a business show in the States and got asked to teach a group programme through an online business school. Since then I’ve continued to work with clients around the world through group programs, one on one coaching and mentoring and speaking at events.
What inspired you to start your own business?
When I was just doing PR consulting, I always noticed that you can give people the best advice or guidance in the world but if their mindset isn’t in the right place, it won’t work or certainly won’t work as well as it could
I’ve always been a fairly intuitive person and have a very solution-oriented mind, so when I started working with clients on both mindset and strategy and saw the results they were getting, it inspired me to focus on coaching and mentoring full time.
What is the most difficult aspect of running your own business?
As a business owner, it’s easy to get stuck in your own limitations and not see all of the opportunities in front of you, that’s why getting great help is so important.
For example, one of the things I love helping my clients with is mapping out a clear strategy for their goals and helping them to see past their own blind spots and limiting beliefs.
What is the best thing about running your own business?
I love the process of working with a client and helping them to see past their own limitations and map out a strategy for their goals.
As a business owner, you have the luxury of designing a business that suits your lifestyle and goals and the freedom to run it in a way that works for you – for example, I can see clients virtually whilst traveling or teach classes or workshops online from anywhere that has wifi.
